Centrifugal juicers are considered by many to be one of the most practical juicers one can go for. Centrifugal juicers achieve a very high spin speed when shredding the food being converted to juice. The juicer spins the foodstuff in the cylinder at an approximate speed of 3000 RPM in order to separate the pulp from the juice. The vegetables and fruits inside the cylinder are chopped by a flat chopping blade just like the one found in a blender.
Once the pulp is sufficiently separated from the juice, the juice and pulp is passed through a strainer basket. The juice is then collected at the bottom of the juicer in a container. The pulp does not go through the strainer and remains as a residue. Depending on the type of fruits or vegetables being used to make the juice and the quantity of the same, it may be necessary to remove the pulp frequently to prevent clogging. This is sometimes considered one of the drawbacks of centrifugal juicers.
The speed of the centrifugal juicer does not only lead to noise – heat too is produced as the juicer is spinning. The heat can sometimes be counterproductive because it kills off vital nutrients and enzymes in the fruits or vegetables. It is also important to note that the centrifugal juicer is not the most efficient for certain types of foods such as wheatgrass, parsley, spinach and other green leafy vegetables.
Other than the standard model, there is another type of centrifugal juicer known as the centrifugal ejection juicer. This juicer works in the exact same way as the other juicer. The primary distinction is the fact that the ejection juicer ejects pulp automatically into a container. This addresses one of the main shortcomings of the standard centrifugal juicer and that is managing the pulp.
You don’t have to stop the juicing process in order to remove pulp. This makes it much more efficient if you are preparing a large amount of juice. The automatic ejection comes at a small price though – the centrifugal ejection juicer must spin faster than the standard centrifugal juicer at a rate of about 14000 RPM thus making the juicing process even noisier. The high speed also yields juice that has a great deal of foam.
The centrifugal ejection juicer costs about $ 100 but there are models which go for as much as $ 200 all depending on the capacity and level of functionality you are looking for.
